Meet Michelle
Hi, I'm Michelle Walker, and I'm one of the co-founders of Major Studios. When Clark and I started this journey a few years ago, we envisioned a space that could always evolve alongside us. For the past few years, my studio here at Major has been a personal creative space and my home base for graduate school, where I’ve been studying art therapy and mental health counseling. Clark's been barbering in his studio, and we’ve also hosted a handful of parties, gatherings, and various creative events to foster our growing community.
Although I'm not practicing art therapy here at the studio, my training as an art therapist really shapes how I view this space and how I create.
For the past few years, my personal art practice has been primarily therapeutic in nature. My art has been about self-exploration and discovery, with a priority on process over product, and has often been related to my art therapy training. While my art will always center on my connection to Self and making the unconscious conscious, as I finish graduate school and start my career as an art therapist, I am eager to develop my identity as an artist, separate from (but always intertwined with) my identity as an art therapist. With a conscious intention to shift my art practice toward a final and “finished” product comes the challenge of maintaining the transformative element that process art holds for me, but I’m up for the challenge!
